Andy is a web developer and occasional cartoonist. He does a webcomic about superheroes called Special School. More info as we get it.

@GailSimone Fun fact: in the UK it is called "Family Fortunes". Because we have abandoned feudalism.

@JustAnotherMark Yes, if it's a fairly obvious and deliberate attempt to avoid paying license fees to an artist you've stolen from before.

@GailSimone Sadly I think the Twitter ToS are on their side. People are allowed to be offensive, though not abusive. http://t.co/F0Iwkucd

Sir Gillem
Quick costume sketch of a character from a Doctor Who RPG ... Sir Gillem of Ribos, who was yanked out of time (with a number of other miscreants) by a frightened TARDIS to save its Time Lord from a fate worse than death. Or death. Or something. Anyway, Sir Gillem is now travelling with the Time Lord, trying to find home, and while doing so has discarded his armour for something more covert.
Black Hat
Another RPG character, this one's very much a sketch. That said, it does have a bit more of a sense of being a functional transformer (largely because cars have more places to tuck things inside them).
The collar area was supposed to be two triangular flaps that folded back to form the shape of lapels and a tie, in a more abstract way that may have ultimately come out.
Pipes
Pencil drawing of a character a friend played in our Transformers RPG. His player provided the altmode - a 2008 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic, apparently ([link]) - and I tried to make something approximating a robot mode.
I don't imagine for a moment that this would be a workable transform, but there you go.
T R A I N
This is a drawing I did to make into an icon for ~Diegoliger. The final icon is basically this, cropped down a bit ... he seems pleased with it.
Choo choo!
Cam Shaft
Fan-created Transformer, created for use in an upcoming RPG. His name is Camshaft ("Cam" to his friends). More details to be established, and I might not even use him, but I felt like drawing, so.
It's only my second go at designing a transforming robot ... I don't think I quite have the right brain to visualise a fully-working conversion, so we have to settle for "bits of a car attached to a robot". If he was a TF Animated character - which is a style that I was hoping to at least evoke here - his toy would involve a lot of cheats and probably a fair amount of altmode hanging off the back.
Sadly, this is probably one of the better cars I've drawn. I am not good at cars.
New Desktop: Prince and Scion
Further to this desktop [link] I decided that the blank space over to the left was too ... er .. blank.
So I looked up a Prince of Persia desktop, added some smoke, removed some other smoke, and made a nice composite scene.
Scion is copyright White Wolf, Prince of Persia: Two Thrones is copyright Ubisoft of somebody, you know, whatever.
New Desktop
Uh, it's a new desktop. I took the largest SCION: HERO desktop from the While Wolf site [link] and dropped it into a double-monitor sized canvas, slightly less tall so it lost a bit of the top and bottom, then added some gradient and airbrushed clouds off to the left (because it was wider than the original). The end.
Michelle
Drew this for a friend - it's his pregnant wife with knitting needles. He's planning to put it on a T-shirt for her, with a slogan saying something like "I WILL KILL YOU WITH KNITTING NEEDLES".
Trellis
A quick sketch of my new character for our local Forgotten Realms game. His name's Trellis Meriweather and he's a mercenary kind of fighter guy. His mission in life is to hit things with his sword until they stop getting up.
Precious
This is a friend of a friend, drawn in superdeformed style from rough description (though apparently it actually looks like him - this is the advantage of cartoonery, you just need to get a few details in and it looks right). The joke is that he's really into some Lord of the Rings PC game or other, so ... so he ... yeah.
Manga John
This, again, is a real person but it's less of a portrait. I don't know, I'm making this up as I go.
Brief: "Do a drawing of me looking cool." OKAY SIR!
Adam
I dithered some time over where exactly to file this. It's a picture of a real person, it's somewhat cartoony, I did it without an actual reference (ie, from memory) and he's depicted "in character" from an LRP game (hence the blue makeup and enormous axe). Plus, of course, there's the old "digital/traditional" dichotomy - I drew it on paper with brush pen (the virtues of which I cannot sufficiently extoll) then scanned and coloured on the PC. I have decided, though, that it's mostly a portrait and that the digital processing was significant. So now you know.
Who's that?
New desktop today - taken from [link]
Kyla
Okay, I guess this goes in Portraits, since it was created with the aid of several reference photographs. However, it's very much caricatured.
This is a commission I had this week, being to draw a Penny Arcade style picture of a friend's co-worker, to be given as a birthday present. (Her nickname is apparently "The Rottweiler", hence the doggy.) I don't know how well I've captured Krahulik's style but the client seemed happy...
The picture was inked with india ink fibretips (did I mention how much I love them?) then scanned and coloured on the PC. I am not terribly satisfied with my optical mouse, it does not produce very smooth arcs. I had to do a lot of neatening.
EDIT: I guess DA's preview generator has trouble with PNG's alpha-channel transparencies or whatever, and seems to have added a ginchy background. Go full view, it's all properly transparent and stuff.
Special School 5
Part 5 of the series. Look, the girl has a name now! IT IS A FIVE YEAR ARC
Special School 4
After much dithering I've decided to continue the Special School series. I'm bored of copying and pasting direct links so if you're interested you'll just have to check out my gallery...
Special School 3
Strip 3 in the series so far - 1 [link] , 2 [link] .
I'm not sure how funny this one is. It might be one of those that's funnier in hindsight, when you know the characters a little better.
It was originally going to be two panels of silence followed by "I mean - Ow!" but I couldn't let myself do it in the end.
Special School 2
Strip 2 in the "Special School" series (see details [link]).
This marks the first time I have scanned pencils, printed out a paler copy, inked those and re-scanned them. I'm kind of happy with the results, and I get to keep my pencils too, which is a bonus.
Special School 1
This is something new for me - I'm experimenting with the idea of a serial comedy strip. Yes, like a webcomic. The basic notion is of super-powered teenagers in public education; they're not allowed masks, costumes or codenames (but that may not stop some of them), and they're supposed to keep the nature of their "special class" secret from the rest of the students. This strip is the opener, though there's nothing particularly funny about it.
It's a dark start.
Angels II: the revenge
I don't know if you'd call this "finished". It's certainly to the point where I'm submitting it to the person I'm drawing it for, but then if he likes it I'll probably be inking it...
Anyway. A friend of mine asked me to draw an avenging angel for him to get tattooed on his back (as mentioned [link] - yes I have been dragging my heels). This is my most recent proposal. i am really very unsure about the anatomy here, feet remain my natural enemy.
Drawn with 6B and HB graphite pencils on cartridge paper, copious use of a new putty eraser which is da bomb.
